Hus against Toothache
Betlémská kaple
The Bohemian people held Hus for a saint. And just as healing power was once ascribed to particular saints, each for a different ailment, so it was ascribed to Hus that he helped against toothache. For that reason, at Husinec, his birthplace, people cut splinters from the house where he was born, and in Prague the people kissed the pulpit in the Bethlehem Chapel for toothache and took splinters from it. It was also believed that the water from the well here had healing power — for Hus is said to have baptised with that water and to have drawn it with a small glass marked with a red cross, which is now kept in the Bohemian Museum.
