The Saint Gregory Procession
Braník
At Braník the old custom of walking in procession on Saint Gregory's day was long preserved. It was twelve schoolboys dressed up as soldiers, who were instructed by the schoolmaster and went from house to house, singing and carrying a collecting box into which the neighbours put gifts for the teacher. This custom came to us from abroad in the second half of the sixteenth century and was observed in Prague as well.
