The Wedding Party That Sank into the Ground

Bubenská

Historically
grotta v Bubnech
Period
za Rudolfa II.

From outside one sees rusticated masonry and imitation stalactites; inside, the stucco is very well preserved in the form of a dripstone cave. There are four half-figures here, two female and two male, and it is said that these are the bridegroom with his groomsman and the bride with her bridesmaid, all of whom sank into the ground on this spot. Opposite the entrance is a less distinct figure of a dragon, from whose jaws water used to flow; there was probably a bathhouse here, according to the legend that of the Emperor Rudolf. Below were wells and passages which are said to have led as far as the Jesuit garden.
