The Tin Soldier on the Forgotten Watch
Čelakovského sady
On the rock below Čelakovského Street there stood until 1900 a picturesque house which people called At the Watch or Šilboch, but also the Devil's Rock and At the Forgotten Watch. Beside that house stood a tin soldier, in memory of the fact that when the Prussians fled from Prague in 1757 they forgot a soldier on guard here. An old man told me there that the King of Prussia is said to have to pay for it to this day. According to another tale a sorcerer lived here in olden times. That soldier is now in the City Museum.
