But Not a Mathematician
Celetná
In 1848 there lived here the professor of mathematics Josef Stanislav Jandera, famed for his severity, a priest of the Premonstratensian order and an honorary burgher of the royal capital city of Prague. This anecdote is told of him. Archbishop Schrenk invited him to his table and during the meal recalled how Jandera had once told him that nothing would become of him — and yet he had become an archbishop. 'But not a mathematician,' the professor answered without hesitation.
