The Rider on the Black Horse
Dlouhá
And there is yet another tale of this former inn At Death, which bore the date 1690. It was in March 1713 when, late one night in wind and driving snow, a stranger of terrible pallor and dreadful eyes rode up here on a black horse. And in the morning a servant girl was found dead in the inn with a blackened face. It was the first case of the dreadful black death; some twenty thousand people died of the plague in Prague and Bohemia at that time. For that reason, it is said, the house was given the name At Death. And after that plague the statuary group of the Holy Trinity was erected in the Lesser Town Square.
