A Little Church in Forty Days
Emauzy
On this rise, called Skalka from ancient times, Saint Wenceslas is said to have built the little church of Saints Cosmas and Damian in forty days in the year 928; those saints have been venerated here since the days of Saints Cyril and Methodius. Saint Wenceslas often stayed here with his faithful Podiven, and Saint Adalbert and Saint Procopius held services here too, as a Czech inscription of 1658 above the door used to record. Legend though it may be, that little Romanesque church was certainly older than 1178, when it is first mentioned.
