At Saint Castulus a School Like a Gaol

In the graveyard, which surrounded the church in a great square, there stood a school. It had a good name, but in time it declined, until it was said all over Prague: 'At Saint Castulus a school like a gaol.' In 1557 a new school was built at great expense, and down on the ground floor was a chapel in which bones were kept — that is, a charnel house.
