About the year 1490 the house At the Miner belonged to Tobiáš of Kutná Hora, and the little figure of a miner is on the corner facing the theatre. In 1480 Jan of Klobouky was Prague's envoy to the diet at Kutná Hora, where the other envoys were seized; he, however, escaped safely. During the rising of the commons against the aldermen in 1483 he was burgomaster, and when armed burghers came storming to the town hall he stood at the gate and fled into the entrance hall. There someone stabbed him through the legs and then they threw him out of the window into the street; he did indeed catch hold of the ironwork at the window, but they knocked him off with a hammer. And because he had broken his leg in the fall, two servants carried him to his interrogation on a litter. He was then beheaded in the square at once, on 27 September, and before his death he is said to have declared: 'Indeed I never meant anything good for this community.' And the executioner, Master Mates, first bowed to him and then did his work.
