The Miner Hájek Invented
Havířská
As late as 1452 the corner house is called the broken-through house. From the name Haléř, which Hájek misread as Havéř, the name of this street is said to have arisen — and Hájek further invented the following, in order to explain the breaking through of the street, that is, the demolition of one house: in 1399 it is said to have been the house of a notable burgher called Hanuš the miner. That year he was an alderman when the king returned from his Viennese imprisonment to Vyšehrad, and at that time he lost his head along with other aldermen; and so his house stood deserted until the king ordered it all pulled down and a postern made through the gap.
