The Three Ensigns

Husova

Historically
dům u tří praporečníků, č. 231-12
Period
1735

The house is called At the Three Ensigns, and on the façade between the windows are three pictures of them, newer ones in place of the earlier which had perished. Three friends who were officers are said to have lived here, each of them an ensign in a different regiment. They promised one another that if one of them should die, he would appear to the others. And indeed, when one of them fell in Italy in 1735, he appeared to his two friends in Prague and told them that they too would soon die. They therefore laid down their commissions and entered the Franciscan house at Our Lady of the Snows, where both died within the year.
