The Ghost on the Three-Legged Horse
Hybernská
In the extensive monastery garden potatoes were grown from the beginning of the eighteenth century, the first in Bohemia; they became common among us only during the great famine of 1772. Their Czech name, brambory, comes from the fact that they reached us from Germany, which was often called Brambory here. And according to the legend a ghost rides out at night from the former monastery on a three-legged horse, with a great clatter, around Joseph Square — and after an hour vanishes in the gateway of the abolished church.
