The Host in the Woodpile

Karlovo náměstí

Historically
kostel Božího Těla na Dobytčím trhu
Period
za Karla IV.

Why a church was built here, and why with this particular dedication, legend explains thus. A sinful woman was compelled to go to confession, and she did receive the Body of the Lord, but secretly took a part of it out and threw it away here into a pile of firewood. When strange things began to happen on that spot, and the sacred host was at last found there unharmed, Charles IV had a church built here in honour of the Body of God.
