Among the precious relics of the saints in the cathedral of Saint Vitus there is kept, according to the belief of the devout people, a piece of the skull of Saint Balthasar the king, which the Archbishop Frederick of Cologne is said to have given to Charles IV in 1372. With it are found particles of the gold, frankincense and myrrh offered by the three kings to Christ the Lord — from where they were brought, however, cannot be known. There was also a great silver palm branch, richly gilded, which one of the prelates carries in his hand in the procession on Palm Sunday; and in that silver palm may be seen a quite distinct piece of the palm which the angel brought to the Virgin Mary before her death. Besides these, two thorns from the crown, a piece of the sponge, several fragments of the linen in which the body of Christ the Lord was wrapped after his death, a piece of Moses's rod and a piece of Aaron's rod, and two nails from Noah's ark — as Beckovský gravely relates.
