The Gold from Saint Wenceslas's Skull
Katedrála svatého Víta
The legend relates that when the goldsmith was making the crown he ran short of gold; and because Charles IV was not present, Queen Blanche gave him the golden crown which had from of old rested on the skull of Saint Wenceslas. When the emperor learned of it he considered the deed ill done, and therefore took counsel with Archbishop Arnošt and ordered that the new crown should rest permanently on the holy head.
