The chapel of Saint Wenceslas is entirely separated from the church by a wall. On its massive, heavily ironclad door there hangs from a bronze lion's head a memorable ring, said to have been brought here from Stará Boleslav, where Saint Wenceslas caught hold of it as he lay dying on 28 September 935. The devout people kiss that ring and the lion's head. In the chapel one can also see a block on which Saint Wenceslas is said to have split wood for the fire on which the hosts were baked. And they also show there a small iron grid walled into the masonry, which is said to have been used in the judgements of God, that is, the ordeals; Charles IV abolished these in 1355 and left the grid there as a memorial — though people say it is really the pan of a censer.
