The Golem
Klausová synagoga
Yet another tale is recorded of this rabbi. He is said to have made himself a great figure of a man out of clay, and when he had written on its forehead the word golem, that is, servant, the figure came alive and carried out the rabbi's every command exactly; even the heaviest work was child's play to it. But always before the Sabbath the rabbi wiped that magic word from his servant's forehead, so that the Sabbath day should not be profaned by any labour.
