The Picture That Helped at White Mountain
Kostel Panny Marie Vítězné
After 1640 the Carmelites rebuilt the church into a new and roomier one dedicated to Our Lady of Victory and Saint Anthony of Padua. In this monument to the battle of White Mountain was kept a copy of the miraculous picture with which Dominic had helped to win the day. The original was carried to Rome at the pope's wish, where it is said to have burned at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Of the old Protestant church that stood here between 1611 and 1613 there remains a marble font, today the holy-water stoup by the main entrance.
