The Curious Monk Behind the Pillar

On the fresco you will see a figure peering out from behind a pillar. While the painter was at work on those frescoes, it is said, he stipulated that no one was to look at his work until it was finished. But a curious monk slipped into the church all the same, hid behind a pillar and watched the painter at his work. When the painter caught sight of him he did not let on that he had seen him — but in punishment he set him there for ever.
