Hus Nails His Declaration to the Gate
Králodvorská
In the time of the religious disturbances Hus nailed his declaration to the gate here in 1414: that he was willing to stand trial so that his errors might be proved against him, and that if convicted he was willing to suffer as a heretic. On this same spot King Wenceslas IV was seized in 1402 and carried across the Old Town square to the castle; and afterwards, when — as people said — the Lord God and Saint Wenceslas had been pleased to help him, he had a private postern made for his future safety, leading from the King's Court through the Old Town wall opposite the monastery of Saint Ambrose.
