The Goddess Who Never Was

Ládví

Historically
les a ves Ládví

The name Ládví is said to come from the place having been dedicated to the pagan goddess Lada — except that no such goddess ever existed. The word lada once meant a maiden, so that Ládví would be the same as Děvín; another word, lada, means unploughed land. On the hill there are large stone quarries, and in old times a fortified house is said to have stood there.
