The Secretary Under the Lumber
Loretánské náměstí
In 1618 Fabius Ponzon, the archbishop's secretary, hid here. When the estates took revenge on those who had persecuted the non-Catholics, the archbishop fled in time, and so they looked for his secretary, who was said to have dealt harshly with the Protestants at Hroby. They did not find him in his house, until some boy let out that he was hiding in the Capuchin monastery. The commission went there at once, but the Capuchins led them about the house and denied that he was concealed with them. Then a servant found him in the loft under the roof beams, hidden beneath old lumber, and he was taken off to the Lesser Town lock-up. From there he was later released and banished from the country.
