Shoes of Dough and a Dance That Ended in the Ground

Malostranské náměstí

Historically

Told by
Josef Svátek, Pražské pověsti; Herold

The legend of this house comes from the time of the Liechtensteins. Princess Liechtenstein, formerly a charcoal-burner's daughter, is said to have worn shoes made of dough; the same is told of the Černín Palace. It is also said that the mistress of the house pledged herself to the devil to keep her beauty. And the daughter of a rich Prague miller is said to have longed to see the splendid balls held here, until the devil, whom she summoned, brought her an invitation along with costly clothes and jewels — but at the first dance she sank into the ground.
