The Fire on the Prince's Grave

Na Hrobci

Historically
místo zvané na Hrobci pod Vyšehradem
Told by
Václav Hájek z Libočan

A house here is still called At the Tomb. According to Hájek, Prince Přemysl was buried in that spot below Vyšehrad above the brook, and there too, after sunset, was buried Hrubá, daughter of Krasoň and wife of Nezamysl. When they had covered her over, her serving women did not leave the place until the third day but burned a fire without ceasing on her grave and cast into it many things left behind by her and of their own as well; at the last they went away, throwing stones over their heads. Nezamysl too was buried below Vyšehrad not far from his father, in the place called the Prince's Tomb, and his son Mnata was laid in the grave with many gifts in his hands — and a great fire burned on his mound until the third day. Urns have indeed been found here.
