The Catacombs Beneath Zderaz

In the former monastery there is said to have been a cellar joined by an underground passage as far as the cellar at Saint Lazarus's. In that passage, they say, those who died of plague in the neighbourhood were buried in 1680 — so that people should not be further frightened by many funerals in public places. Today there is no trace of the openings into that passage, but in times past a master cooper who had his workshop at Zbořenec is said to have walked through it, having found the catacombs by chance.
