The Stone on Which Frederick Sat
Obora Hvězda
In 1757 King Frederick lodged here as he had thirteen years before. When the prior of Břevnov told him that he had no beer for the army and could not brew for want of wood, the king pointed to the Star and said there was wood enough there. The Prussians then felled trees here for six weeks until not a tree was left. To this day they show a stone on which Frederick II is said to have sat in 1757, watching with malicious pleasure as his guns poured destructive shot upon unhappy Prague. In a sortie from Prague twelve hundred Prussians fell here.
