According to Karel Chalupa's account, the priests here were given a strong garrison of Bavarian troops during the enemy invasion of 1741. The soldiers behaved so badly that Father Anselm Dessing, himself a Bavarian by birth, resolved to drive them out. The monastery began to be haunted: at midnight a fiery bear appeared, and behind it soon a devil so dreadful that the sentry fled his post. This went on for several days, until an officer hid in the corridor and fired at the place from which came the light in which the devil and the bear appeared. And in the morning they found the unfortunate author of those apparitions dead — Anselm, who had been frightening the soldiers with a magic lantern.
