The Church Drahomíra Abolished
Šporkova
In this area, which lay outside the walls before the city was first fortified, there was already about the year 1100 a village called Obora; its name recalls the former forest on the Strahov and Petřín hills. In that village a parish church of Saint John the Baptist, under the patronage of the Prague chapter, is recorded as early as 1141. It stood on the site of a house in the neighbouring Šporkova Street opposite the orphanage and is said to have been built by Vratislav I — but Drahomíra abolished it.
