Traces of Blood on the Walls
Staronová synagoga
Content warning: violence
In 1389 the Jews stoned a priest carrying the Blessed Sacrament, and from this an unprecedented storm arose against them. On Sunday 18 April their town was burned and some three thousand Jews were slain or perished in the flames. Traces of the blood then shed are said to remain to this day on the walls of the Old-New Synagogue. King Wenceslas, it seems, did not punish that violence, but had handed over to himself the silver and gold which had been seized and taken to the town hall.
