The Executioner's Dwelling on Úvoz

The low Hrzán house in Loretánská Street, once Peter Parler's, reaches as far as Úvoz, and on the Úvoz side it is an enormous building of five storeys. From the second little courtyard a rather dark spiral stair leads down to Úvoz, almost a hundred steps as in some tower. And on Úvoz, on the ground floor to the right, the executioner's dwelling is said by legend to have been. From that dwelling an entrance leads to a cellar from which a passage is said to run some quarter of an hour's walk in the direction of Saint Margaret's. On the left, in a small room where a torture chamber is said to have been, a narrow stair was discovered in 1902 leading right up to the second floor. Further on there are enormous cellars on both sides — it was in these that a few years ago the Omladina searched for treasure.
