Seek, Dig, There Is a Treasure in the Cellar

In the little house of the cathedral servants there lived in 1859 a Mrs V., who dreamed several times that someone came up to her and urged her: 'Seek, dig, there is a treasure in the cellar.' At last she told the dream to her relatives, and so they went down to the cellar to dig and search. And indeed in the middle of it they found, beneath an oak cover, a round opening into an unknown chamber below; they climbed down by a ladder and in the lower vault found the beginning of a passage leading towards the tower. But because their lights burned badly they would not go on with the work and left it all. When years later the house was pulled down — the new nave of the cathedral now stands here — that passage was found again, and it was said about Hradčany that a chest of golden church vessels had been found there. A chalice was indeed found.
